Peppermint Lane Wins Her First Race!

Cranbourne trainer Robbie Laing has long espoused the virtues of Grand filly Peppermint Lane, but it took until her eighth start in a race for her to break through for her first win at Cranbourne last Friday night...

Starting favourite in just a small field, and with some people not confident about the drop back in distance being a suitable option for her, she put the doubting Thomas's to the sword as she came from second last approaching the home corner and sprinted home in exciting style to win easily.

In her first seven runs, she's finished runner up three times and even had a tilt at stakes class in her juvenile season, so she's teased us a little bit, but the filly's first win was worth waiting for especially as Robbie Laing thinks that there's better things ahead for her!

With that in mind, she'll have a crack at a Saturday class race now and that could be as soon as this weekend where she's accepted for an $80,000 3yo event over 1400m at Flemington on Saturday...

LILLY THE FILLY. Thursday, Ballarat Race 2. Trainer John Price.
After returning to racing issue free and with a smart 2nd last time out, Lilly gets her chance to go one better here and knock off her maiden tag. A horse that has shown us ability along the way, she comes up against a reasonable field here with a couple of unknowns, but with the red-hot Ryan Maloney in the pilot's seat, a trainer who is just absolutely flying with winners everywhere, and what we think will be a very suitable barrier 1, she can give a good sight at around the $10 mark.

PEPPERMINT LANE. Saturday, Flemington Race 4. Trainer Robbie Laing.

Coming off an outstanding win last start when stepping back to the 1000m, Peppermint Lane has earned a crack at Saturday city-grade here and she'll find herself with a pretty big task ahead in this field of very smart 3yo fillies. The upside is that she's up towards the trip we think she's after and trainer Robbie Laing is confident that she has her share of ability and will acquit herself well. She's a place chance in a very good Saturday field.

AQUAJINSKY. Sunday, Pinjarra Race 4. Trainer Sharon Taylor.
The Blackfriars mare Aquajinsky appears third up here and after two very handy runs where she's come from the back of the field to finish 5th and then 4th, this looks to be just the right race for her and we're expecting her to win. She's got a good barrier (3) and the jockey will be prompted to take advantage of it and fire her out and get her settled in the first half of the field rather than the second half as she's done previously this prep. Trainer Sharon Taylor reports that all's well with the filly and her regular rider Takahide Ikenushi will be on board. She's a good bet.
