The jockeys were wrong when comeback galloper Schiavone got a photo-finish decision at Doomben on Thursday.

Schiavone ($14) and the favourite Riverbolda ($2.10) went to the line locked together in the Mount Franklin Sparkling Handicap.

Andrew Spinks, who rode Schiavone, thought he had been beaten.

"I said to Larry (Cassidy who rode Riverbolda) `I had you every where but the line'," Spinks said.

Cassidy said he thought he had won until he looked at the photo-finish link at the weigh-in area.

"I wasn't even close. There is a clear margin to Andrew's horse," Cassidy said.

It was a great effort by trainer Tina Cotsiopoulos who has been patient with Schiavone.

The five-year-old mare hadn't raced in 13 months after she suffered a slight tear in a tendon.

Meanwhile, blinkers helped filly Max It Out land a plunge when she won the Racing Retro Plate (1350m).

As much as $16 was bet about Max It Out who started $4.60.

Max It Out was originally trained by Chris Waller in Sydney but before she had a start was transferred to Tony Gollan at Eagle Farm.

"She has been crying out for blinkers but I left them off last start to see if she could run the 1600 metres when he failed. This race was always the back up," Gollan said.
