NSW, Victorian race vision returns to Sky

Wednesday 31 December 2014, 5:56pm

Gallops meetings in NSW and Victoria have returned to Tabcorp's wall-to-wall racing channel, ending a blackout of premium thoroughbred events.

Sky Racing covered New Year's Eve meetings from Gosford and Nowra in NSW as well as Echuca in Victoria.

Yet the resolution to a dispute over rights fees between TVN and Tabcorp which reached a stalemate when the wagering giant refused to pay a reported $30 million for racing vision remains far from settled.

"NSW and Victorian thoroughbred racing vision is back on Sky Racing's home channels and in licensed venues and TAB agencies across Australia from today," Tabcorp said in a statement on Wednesday.

"This is an interim arrangement which will improve the customer experience while Sky Racing negotiates long-term broadcasting arrangements with the respective rights holders."

In a turbulent two weeks for the thoroughbred industry, Tabcorp walked away from a series of short-term deals with TVN to broadcast NSW and Victorian racing.

But TVN's position at the negotiating table has since been weakened in the wake of NSW racing administrators quitting the broadcaster.

Convinced Tabcorp's wagering model is the best fit for its state, NSW officials are expected to sign a rights deal with the gambling conglomerate early in the new year.
