Juantorena destined for better wins: Moody

Friday 26 December 2014, 6:28pm

Peter Moody is convinced an impressive win on Boxing Day at Sandown is the start of better things to come from lightly raced Juantorena.

The four-year-old, who started $3.60 favourite, looked a class above his rivals as he sat deep in the Master Yearlings Heat 1 Handicap (1400m) on Friday before chiming in with 300m to run to put his rivals away by 2-1/4 lengths.

It was only his fourth start and Moody pinpointed the 2015 Brisbane winter carnival as the time when Juantorena might get his chance to try to shine.

"He's a good horse," Moody said.

"There's better things in store for him.

"Even though he's four he's still a bit immature and I think he's got a good future. He's certainly capable of winning better races."

Moody said he had had to be patient with Juantorena because of soft tissue problems but believes it will be worth it in the long run.

He said the entire by Pins would likely have one more start before possibly turning attention to the Brisbane winter carnival.

"I think he'll make a very nice handicapper," Moody said.

Juantorena gave Moody and apprentice Regan Bayliss two wins for the day after three-year-old Herstory won earlier on the card.
