Brad Herne gambling on Vegas for Milions

Trainer Brad Herne can further boost his growing reputation with It's Vegas Baby in the B J McLachlan Stakes at the Gold Coast.

Herne is one of the young guns of Brisbane racing with his Eagle Farm based team producing a steady stream of winners this year.

"It's Vegas Baby cost $65,000 and it was the first time we could go to the sales and spend that sort of money," Herne said.

"To qualify him for the Magic Millions Two Year old Classic would be a boost."

"He will probably have to run in the top four on Saturday to be assured of a Classic start but realistically it would not be worth pressing on if he can't."

It's Vegas Baby has been placed twice and in between was a brilliant trial winner at Deagon.

"He didn't run up to the trial when third at his last start in the Phelan Ready Stakes but I don't think he handled the soft track," Herne said.

"He dipped a few times in the straight."

Meanwhile, filly Mywayorthehighway will be among the outsiders but she will have a big sentimental following in the Vo Rogue Plate.

Mywayorthehighway was the last horse raced by popular race caller Wayne Wilson who died in June after a long battle with cancer.

Wilson got to see Mywayorthehighway race only once when she was third on debut at the Sunshine Coast in May but she has had a further three runs for a win and another third.

The filly is now raced by Wilson's widow Sally and some of her friends.

Wilson's son Jamie said his father would have been thrilled to have a runner during the Magic Millions carnival on the Gold Coast.

"Dad loved all racing but the Magic Millions was one of his favourite times of the year," he said.

"The idea is to try to get enough prize money to qualify Mywayorthehighway for the Guineas on Magic Millions Classic day.
