Half-brother to Emaratee set for debut

Monday 22 December 2014, 4:35pm

A sibling to one of Australia's most expensive yearlings has been nominated to make his debut at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Headwater, a son of Exceed And Excel from Group One winning mare River Dove, was a $500,000 yearling and is the younger half brother to the $4 million Fastnet Rock three-year-old Emaratee.

Both colts are in the care of the two-state Hawkes family training partnership.

Headwater showed potential in a jump-out at Flemington last Friday over 800m and is one of 15 nominations for the Super VOBIS race over 1000m.

Emaratee has yet to race and made his first public appearance when fifth in a 900m barrier trial at Rosehill in November.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Lucky Fish, a late scratching at the barrier at Flemington on Saturday, is another entry in the Moonee Valley race.

A half brother to Group One Spring Champion Stakes winner Hampton Court, Lucky Fish had been the medium of solid support from punters before dislodging Vlad Duric at the barriers and cantering off.

John O'Shea has two entries for Godolphin, Super VOBIS qualified first starters Agora and Landmarks.

Agora won a Warwick Farm barrier trial on December 8 on the synthetic surface while Landmarks has not officially been sighted in public.

Only three of the 15 nominations have faced the starter previously with the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained Haybah the most experienced having raced on two occasions.
