Fires not enough to stop Lindsay Park

Saturday 20 December 2014, 2:18pm

Devastating bushfires in rural Victoria have not been enough to stop a successful week for Lindsay Park trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

Debutante Claudia Jean added to a prosperous few days on the track for the stable when she scored by 3-1/2 lengths in the Christmas Season Plate (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The victory earned the Not A Single Doubt filly a trip to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions Classic on January 10.

"I hate to make light of it but we're on fire," Dabernig said.

The Flemington victory followed winners for the stable at Yarra Valley and Moonee Valley on Friday and a double at Mornington on Wednesday.

Staff were evacuated from Lindsay Park on Tuesday and again on Wednesday after 30 per cent of the property was affected by the bushfires that raged through north-east Victoria.

Dabernig had flown to Auckland on a business trip and was in New Zealand for just eight hours when summoned back to Lindsay Park.

He said it was very frightening for 24 to 48 hours as the fires raged but it appears the worst of it is now over.

Claudia Jean won a jumpout at Flemington to gain her barrier certificate and spent the week of the fires at the Flemington stable of Hayes and Dabernig.

He said the filly would return to Lindsay Park and be given some more education on racing right-handed.

"She's a Magic Millions horse," Dabernig said.

"Hopefully she pulls up well and we can head up to the Gold Coast."

Winning jockey Jye McNeil, who landed his first winner back from injury at Flemington last week, said Claudia Jean was a push button type with plenty left in the tank.
