NARANJA (Mossman / Sevillano) running in the Wyong Slipper Thursday - purchased from Edinglassie Stud at Magic Millions 2013

I spent most of last week in the Hunter Valley inspecting some of the yearlings on offer.  It was a good week but I have a lot more work to do heading into the sales.  At this stage I plan to purchase each of our trainers one yearling over the nest two months with the first of these purchases coming from the Gold Coast Magic Millions starting in January.  There are only 22 days until the sale commences.

The owners of Naranja have an exciting day on Thursday with the colt running in the $200,000 Magic Millions 2 Year Old Classic.  He recently won a barrier trial in Newcastle and may still be a bit new but to be honest I am yet to see a really good two year old emerge this season so it is worth a throw at the stumps.  Naranja was bred at Edinglassie Stud in the Hunter Valley .  We purchased Shine On Anna, Savoureux and Eramor from Edinglassie.

A Week Of ups And Downs

I headed back to Sydney on Friday and was fortunate to be invited to the Sydney Cricket Ground for lunch.   It finished up being quite an emotional afternoon as we watched Sean Abbott, the young man who bowled the ball that tragically struck Phillip Hughes on the neck take 6 for 14 against Queensland in a Sheffield Shield match.

This was an amazing effort considering it was only a couple of weeks earlier we saw that tragic accident at the same ground.  Abbott from all reports is a terrific young man and he displayed all the good traits we have come to expect from our sportsmen and sportswomen.

The Australian Cricket Team’s effort to beat India was a win to remember with the leadership group and coaching staff deserving all the accolades they got for getting the team up after the aweful lead in to the test match.

Then on Monday in Sydney where we witnessed with great pride Sean Abbott’s heroics on Friday the dark news that a man was holding a large number of hostages in historic Martin Place.  Australia doesn’t need or deserve acts of terrorism such as this one and our thoughts and prayers should not only go out to the innocent person who lost her life but also to the hostages whose lives have been changed forever.

I applaude all those people involved in the seige from the Prime Minister down.  The whole operation appeared to be carried out in a highly professional manner which should send a message to any other person or persons attempting or planning similar activities that their actions are not wanted and won’t be tolerated.

The Prime Team

You hear some funny things around racecourses and last week I was amazed when told a rumour was going around that I had 100 horses in my team.  I wish I did although I find the ones I have keep me more than busy enough.

For the record the Prime Thoroughbreds racing team comprises 40 horses of racing age (two or older) and six yearlings.

The 40 racehorses comprise 26 that have raced and 14 unraced (13 two year olds and one three year old).

21 of the 26 that have raced are winners with me being fairly confident that we may finish up with all 26 winning.  At present I have 25 horses in work and 15 out spelling.

This season we have had 22 wins from 78 runners or a 28.2% winners to runners ratio.

I’m expecting  that our results should remain solid during the summer months with plenty of horses racing.

I hope that sets the record straight!

ON THE TRACK

We have quite a number of runners in the coming week starting with Annaman at Ipswich today then Pitt Street, Bella Venus and Princess Royale at Launceston tonight.  Naranja is set to debut on Thursday in the Magic Millions Wyong Slipper or at Rosehill on Saturday.  Rumeron heads to Hobart on Friday with Terra Amata and Faith’n’Courage run on Saturday at Rosehill and Doomben.

The weather had quite an impact on our team over the past couple of weeks and while I never complain about rain it can be a nuisance at times.

We have had quite a few horses trial recently and a new wave of runners is set to see us into the New Year.  I’ll forward out the Christmas / New Year runners in next week’s dispatch.

I AM INVINCIBLE CONTINUES TO GET WINNERS

The winners just seem to keep coming for I Am Invincible.  From what I saw last week this will continue.  See the table below taken from breednet.com.au

He is the real deal but his success will see his progeny being highly sought after at the upcoming sales.

PRIME MARES DO US PROUD

The Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale is a select sale and it isn’t easy to get yearlings into it.  In the upcoming January Sale eight yearlings will be offered out of mares that I purchased as yearlings.  These mares are Believe’n’Achieve, Fromage, Graphite Lass, Hidden Wonder, Huiskes, Maha Chakri, Red Centre and Zelady.

These numbers should increase in the years to come with horses of the calibre of Hijack Hussy, Savoureux, Shine On Anna, Unchain My Heart, Sweet Talkin Woman, Zedipower, Calming Influence and Mosse Diva to name a few sure to make their mark in the breeding barn when their time comes.

I am looking forward to inspecting the foals out of these mares but given the money some have fetched in recent years they won’t be easy to buy if they pass our selection criteria.

I AM INVINCIBLE FILLY OUT OF AMBER’S ARION - KRIS LEES TO TRAIN

The progeny of I Am Invincible seem to go from strength to strength with him now completely dominating the 2nd season sires list with winners coming thick and fast.

I am thrilled to offer the yearling filly by I Am Invincible out of Amber’s Arion. I have been trying to purchase her for six months and clinched the deal last week while I was in the Hunter Valley.  This should be good news for the clients who buy into her.  More information later in this dispatch.

Yarraman Park is also riding on the crest of a wave at present with their first season sire Hinchinbrook starting to make a big impact with him sitting in 2nd place on the First Season List.  He is a stunning horse and I am on record picking him to be Australia’s Leading First Season Sire.  Fingers crossed.

I AM INVINCIBLE / AMBER’S ARION 2013

Pictured above is an athletic yearling filly by I Am Invincible out of the very well related mare Amber’s Arion.  This is Amber’s Arion’s 2nd foal.  Amber’s Arion is a ½ sister to the outstanding two year old filly Amber’s Waltz.

Amber’s Arion

Amber’s Arion is a ½ siter to Amber’s Waltz wchich won as a two year old and was placed 2nd in the Gold Coast Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic and Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes.  She was also placed 2nd  in the Group 3 AJC Sweet Embrace Stakes and 3rd in the STC Tea Rose Stakes and the Listed MVRC Alexandra Plate.  At 3 she ran 4th in the MRC Group 1 1000 Guineas.

Amber’s Arion is out of the Group 3 and multiple Listed winner Ambers Halo.  She was also placed 4th in the WA Oaks.  I love purchasing horses out of families where the daughters have performed well in Oaks races.  I have also had a lot of success with horses out of WA mares with the best being Unabated.  This is a great family.

Amber’s Arion is by Fusaichi Pegasus who is starting to make a name for himself internationally as a sire of high class brood mares.  The best horses out to Fusaichi Pegasus mare to race in Australia are Niagara, Darci Be Good, Gamblin Guru, Aeronautical and Rose Of Choice.

I Am Invincible

I Am Invincible was Australia’s Leading First season Sire in 2013/14 Season by both stakes money and individual winners.  His progeny have proved he was no flash in the pan coming out in their three year old year being more dominant than in the first season. In fact he gapped the opposition with more winners than the next three sires on the list.

I Am invincible had his service fee raised to $27,500 this breeding season and was fully booked out in a matter of days.  The mail about his upcoming crop of two year olds is very strong.

I am thrilled to have this filly join our team and look forward to her wearing our colours.  10 shares @ $7,800 with 5% shares just $3,900 each.  This filly is filling up quickly.
