She's A Fox comeback put on hold

Monday 10 December 2012, 5:51pm

She's A Fox, the Anthony Cummings filly who could have easily added to the trainer's impressive spring carnival haul if not for injury, has had her return to training delayed.

One of the favourites for the Group One Golden Rose before going amiss, She's A Fox was due back at the Cummings stable at the start of the month to prepare for an autumn campaign.

"She was going to come in last week and we got the vet to look at her and it was suggested we give her another month out," Cummings said.

She's A Fox strained a ligament at the back of her knee forcing Cummings to abandon a spring campaign that started - and ended - with two Warwick Farm wins by a combined margin of more than seven lengths.

Cummings recovered from the loss of She's A Fox to win the Victoria Derby with Fiveandahalfstar and a Group Two sprint with Fontelina on the same day at Flemington.

He said She's A Fox's later-than-expected return would force a change in autumn plans but he was uncertain about a target race.

"There wasn't really one race I had in mind but there will be plenty of races for a filly like her," Cummings said."

Fiveandahalfstar had a month in the paddock after his surprise Victoria Derby win.

"He spelled very well, putting on a fair bit of weight," Cummings said.

Cummings has eight horses entered for Saturday's Rosehill meeting, including unraced two-year-old Astronaut.

By More Than Ready, Astronaut is the fifth foal of the stakes-winning Danehill mare Moonflute.

"He's Magic Millions qualified so I might wait for (a lead-up race at) Wyong next week," Cummings said.

The best of his Rosehill entry appears to be Ain't She Grand, a speedy filly who was nosed out when she resumed at Warwick Farm.
