Alcopop runs third in International Cup

Sunday 9 December 2012, 8:04pm

Australian veteran Alcopop has run a gallant third in the Hong Kong International Cup, coming from last on the home turn.

Last year's winner California Memory was a decisive winner over French filly Giofra with Craig Williams bringing Alcopop along the rail to snatch third.

Eight-year-old Alcopop has been in career-best form this season, running second to Dunaden in the Caulfield Cup before claiming the Mackinnon Stakes.

Carlton House, owned by the Queen, ran in the second half of the field at his last start before he joins the Gai Waterhouse stable in Sydney.

Alcopop's third in Sunday's 2000m Cup was the best result for Australia at the International meeting after Sea Siren failed to fire in the Sprint.
