Avdulla to miss Villiers with suspension

Saturday 29 November 2014, 6:53pm

Brenton Avdulla will miss the summer's biggest race after being suspended for careless riding at Rosehill.

Avdulla rode Estonian Princess to a close second in Saturday's Festival Stakes, the lead-up to the Villiers in two weeks.

But an indiscretion in an earlier race at Rosehill means he will be missing when the Group Two Villiers is run.

He was found guilty of causing interference to Tommy Berry's mount Aerobar when he rode Oscuro in the De Bortoli Wines Handicap.

Avdulla's plea that it was an error of judgment rather than carelessness, was discounted by the stewards.

The penalty was reduced from seven meetings to five as it was found Avdulla, with Berry's safety in mind, quickly corrected Oscuro after the incident.
