Pentasia caps a big week for Jenny Duggan

Saturday 8 December 2012, 6:40pm

In little more than seven months, apprentice Jenny Duggan has taken NSW racing by storm but her win on Pentasia at Rosehill on Saturday has more significance than her many other achievements so far.

It was the first time her visiting Swedish parents Tony and Elizabeth had seen her ride a winner and the meeting was only the second time they had actually watched her ride.

A former picnic rider on NSW tracks, Duggan took the plunge to join the professional ranks in May and leads the Sydney apprentices' premiership.

"It's awesome," Duggan said.

"The first time they saw me ride was last night at Canterbury but this is the first time they have seen me ride a winner," Duggan said.

"I thought it would be hard to ride a winner today but Marc (Quinn) has this mare going really well and she beat some smart horses today."

The win capped a big week for Duggan who was successful in having a one-month ban for her handling of a horse in October overturned on appeal.

Pentasia ($6.50) held off the favourite Riva De Lago ($3.30) by 1-1/2 lengths to win the Blackwoods Loctite Handicap (1100m).

It was her second Rosehill race win in two weeks.

The Port Macquarie-based Quinn plans to give Pentasia a couple of easy weeks then get her ready for the Listed Canterbury Classic (1100m) under lights on January 25.

"It's important for her to get black type and I think that is the ideal race for her," Quinn said.

"I'll give her a couple of weeks on the water walker and get her ready."
