Miss Softhands keeps unbeaten record

Saturday 8 December 2012, 5:59pm

Barrier issues delayed the start of Miss Softhands' career but the filly is quickly making up for lost time with an impressive introduction to city racing at Caulfield on Saturday.

Miss Softhands produced the turn of foot of an up-and-coming filly as she defeated She Can Skate by a long neck in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1100m) with 1-1/2 lengths to Octavia third.

Trainer Colin Little is adamant Miss Softhands has the scope to be an autumn carnival filly after making it two wins from as many starts.

"I don't think there's any doubt because I think one per cent of horses can win a maiden and then step up and win on a Saturday," Little said.

"Plenty win a maiden and go to a midweek (race) but not many win on Saturday straight from a maiden.

"There was six last-start winners in the race, she got back and has given them four or five lengths start and beaten them."

Little said Miss Softhands was a tough filly who had taken a long time before being granted a barrier certificate and allowed to race.

"It was nothing really bad, just she wouldn't load well enough to get her barrier certificate," he said.
