THE HORSE

This colt was recently purchased at the recent Inglis and Son yearling sale . This colt is by one of the best horses we have ever seen in Europe by the super sire and importantly sire of sires in Dansili. Zoffany is one of the European sires whose stock seems to be really “stamped” and we think his progeny will make then grade down here. His stock up sold up to $1m AUD and he was the horse who nearly defeated Frankel only losing narrowly to him in the ST James Palace beaten less than a length

This colt is only the second foal of a Galileo mare and its common knowledge Galileo is considered by most the best broodmare sire in the world. His dam was no slouch having only been defeated to the Group class mare Gai’s Choice who won a Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic

As you can see in the below photo his sire is one of best looking horses around and we think this horse ticks all the boxes we require

Why We Brought Him

1. CONFIRMATION. This Category is fairly self explanatory. We are looking more so for horses who have issues or deficiencies in their confirmation that will hinder the horse in its career. Ask any single trainer who has had Group horses and to a man they will all tell you their best horses have never been perfect in confirmation and in fact most perfectly conformed horses are the slowest. What we look for here is issues we cant live with or issues that will affect the horse at a later stage in life. Some traits are very manageable and other traits you cannot ignore and means the horses will never race.

This colt has very impressive strength in the forearm and in his engine room being the rear end hind quarters. The forearm is one area on a horse that will not grow or develop muscle and it’s a very important lever in determining a horses strength and helps provide strength for speed

He also has very defined but small cannons and the short pasterns- another indicator that speed is what this horse is bred for.

What really got me though was the horses walk and overall physical presence. He is a very powerful boy and but his walk was that of a RockStar and full or swagger and attitude but importantly was extremely fluid and loose which is a must

On Confirmation Score he rated a Pass with no obvious or concerning Traits. In fact he was one of the top walking colts in the sale

2. BIOMECHANICS

One factor we haven’t highlighted is we employ a unique “biomechanical” system and check list that is very similar to what is used by the professional baseball and basketball scouts in the US. What this system tells us is that without the correct confirmation and ‘leavers” its not physically possible for athletes to perform at an optimum level unless you first have the right tools and physical make up. For example statistically its just about impossible for a 5ft white man with extra short arms to play professional Basketball in the US. Not to say that 5ft players are not good or cant make the league its just statistically they don’t perform at the level coaches require. Using this system we attempt to weed out the horses who don’t psychically move in a way that best utilises there limbs and body. The freak 1 in 1 million horse we are not looking for.We want the horses that give us the best chance in all areas

Once we identify this we then look at the horses and how they use their body’s and tools. For example we all know that a horse gets most of his propulsion from his rear end and as part of the process we run each breeze up under a system we analyse for example the horses Hip movements and angulation and exactly where the horses are pushing from. For example you don’t want a race horse who is pushing off from behind himself as he loses a lot of his power and you want to see them push off from underneath their own body where they have the most benefit from their hips and power. For example it stands to reason two different horses with the same stride length ,style and turnover rate are not going to run exactly the same time- but the horse that best utilises its body in propelling itself should always finish in front.

We use this system extensively when buying our European horses and we find it weeds out a lot of horses that to the eye are impressive but don’t have the stats or data behind them to perform up to our expectations. Of course this system is not fool proof as nothing has been developed to test a horses will or heart and determination- however it’s a system that helps us avoid a lot of slow horses and helps backup what the eye might detect or miss

On This system this colt rated 58 !!. This is in the top 5% of horses. This was equal best of all our horses we brought this year

3. PEDIGREE. We have already touched on the pedigree and performance of Zoffany and we think getting a speed sire over a Galileo mare will help produce a sprinter miler. This horses female line comes from some of the best families in Australia and they are all speed orientated horses which this fellow himself looks like

As a result we use a number of different pedigree approaches and this colt scored a 16 out of 20 on pedigree whilst is a excellent mark

We expect him to run early and then train on and with training fees just at $5 per day everyone can afford him.

Overall he is as good a horse as you would hope to see and with all the boxes being ticked we think he has every chance to succeed. If you where buying him on his physical make up and walk you would pay $100000 plus

Having done our research and given we loved his attitude we were going to buy this colt no matter what and given we haven’t had to pay much we think he is a bargain

4. Back Up Plan

Basically being a colt or gelding we have the option when he has fully matured to assess him and if Kris Lees determines that he is not going to make Saturday racing we can on sell him . Having paid very little this means at the price on offer with even luck it all but assures us we can exit the horse for a decent profit either by racing to sell or racing to trial and then selling to Asia. Moderate horses are bringing $60-100k if they trial ok

5. BONUS MONEY

We will pay this filly up for the lucrative Inglis Bonus money series. The inglis race series is restricted to horses brought at this sale and they often have these $100k plus races on that only these certain horses are paid up for

The Bobs bonus scheme is very lucrative and another bonus that the horse will race for bonus prizemoney everytime he runs

6. COSTS FOR A SHARE AND UPKEEP

When you buy into this colt you do so for the life of the colt or until we sell. That means if he goes on to bred you own a percentage of his progeny or if we sell him you will receive your share of the proceeds or stallion nominations

Cost and fully paid up till the 30th of June
