The Filly

It wasn’t hard for me to decide to purchase this outstanding filly by one of Australia’s very best sires out of a daughter of a mare that was the 3rd rated filly of her year and the winner of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
When the filly was brought out to be paraded I was struck by her presence. She isn’t a big filly but a beautifully, well balanced athlete that glides over the ground rather than walks across it.

The filly has a wonderful hind quarter, is strong through the chest and has a nice depth to her girth. The filly has a very attractive head which is important because you rarely see a good horse that hasn’t got one.

I don’t go loking for horses that are linked to a specific bonus scheme because I believe it narrows your judgement. This filly has been paid up for Super VOBIS which is a bonus and as a result will go to Darren Weir to train. The filly will be paid up for the rich Magic Millions Series which has been so good to Prime Thoroughbreds with us winning six rich Magic Millions races in recent years.

I am thrilled to have purchased her and look forward to her racing future. Let’s have a closer look at her pedigree.

Written Tycoon

Written Tycoon is rightly regarded as one of Australia’s premier sires and currently is placed 8th on the Australian General Sires List which is a great effort for a Victorian based horse. His position so high up on the list, and there are about 700 stallions standing in Australia, is no fluke and not the result of the earnings from one outstanding galloper.

Written Tycoon has had 84 individual winners this season with 11 stakes wins to his credit. These stakes wins are a very important indicator to how a sire is performing and only the boom sires Snitzel and I Am Invincible have more than him with 15 and 13 respectively.

Written Tycoon has really established himself on the Australian breeding scene over the past couple of seasons with a rapid climb up the sire’s tables. He was the Champion Sire of Two Year Olds in Australia in 2015/16 Season where he had the top two year old and Golden Slipper winner in Capitalist.

Written Tycoon was a fast horse and has some of the best bloodlines in Australia on both sides of the pedigree through the likes of Vain, Marscay, Last Tycoon and Kenmare. It shouldn’t be surprising he has been such a big success at stud here where the well performed colonially bred horses dominate the Australian breeding landscape.

Burnished raced just the once but is by the outstanding sire of broodmares in More Than Ready. Burnished is out of Sleek Chassis, a the high class daughter of Champion broodmare sire Flying Spur.
Sleek Chassis was rated the 3rd best 2 year old filly in Australia in her year and won the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes as well as VRC Talindert Stakes. To highlight her versatility she then went to Sydney where she was 3rd in the STC Reisling Slipper Trial. As a three year old her best performance was a 3rd placing in the MRC 1000 Guineas Prelude. Unfortunately she only had two foals.

There is much more to the pedigree than Sleek Chassis with Burnishing Group 1 winner Marble Halls. He was a very serios racehorse winning seven times beating some of the very best horses of his generation.

My research into the cross with Burnished (More Than Ready) going to Written Tycoon quickly threw up up great results. Only two More Than Ready mares have had progeny race by Written Tycoon. One of these was the Group 1 winner Luna Rossa. It shouldn’t be surprising so few More Than Ready mares have gone to Written Tycoon. These mares simply wouldn’t be available to him with him standing in Queensland the Victoria.

The pedigree on Burnished’s side is outstanding and really compliments Written Tycoon.

Armidale Stud

Armidale Stud has been run as a Thoroughbred Nursery for over 50 years. The Wishaw family are an institution in Tasmania and are extremely highly regarded as running one of the most professional stud farms in Australia.

They have continued to support the breeding industry in Tasmania through some difficult times for racing and I have no hesitation in purchasing a yearling from them. They are outstanding breeders.

Some of the better horses to have come from Armidale Stud in recent years include Up Cups, Lady Lynette, Queenstown, Iggimacool, Hellova Street, Like A Carousel, Dream Pedla, Black And Tough and Rebel Bride.

Correct as at 17/02/17
