Description

At this year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Adelaide, Grand Syndicates wanted to look at one horse in particular, a colt by the dual G1 winning freshman sire Toorak Toff and importantly from the proven broodmare Okiato.

This colt is from the first crop of TOORAK TOFF, an outstanding winner of over $1million in prizemoney and who boasts the impressive record of being a 2yo Group winner, a 3yo G1 winner and also a 4yo G1 winner too! That sort of longevity isn’t seen in many first season stallions anymore. He was the impressive winner of both the G1 Golden Rose and the G1 Rupert Clarke Stakes, and along the way defeated star gallopers SMART MISSILE, STAR WITNESS, CRYSTAL LILLY, ILOVETHISCITY,HINCHINBROOK and fellow G1 winning son of Show A Heart, WOORIM.

The colts dam, Okiato is by the super broodmare stallion FLYING SPUR, and is already a proven producer of the 6-time winner and G3 placed STARKIATO and also-very importantly-our own lightly raced but well performed 3yo filly TYKIATO. At the time of our colt’s purchase at auction, Tykiato trained by John Price, has had just the four starts placing first up and then winning easily second up, before going on to prove herself in tough Melbourne Saturday class at just her first attempt. In fact in 4 starts for us, the only unplaced result Tykiato has managed has been 4th when beaten 2 lengths by the very talented 3yo fillies Wild Rain and Witless at Moonee Valley. In our opinion, she's certainly a filly with a big future!

So with this in mind, we just had to look closely very closely at her younger half brother and were suitably impressed with what we saw. A strong, correct colt who stands over a plenty of ground, he has plenty of strength through his shoulders and hips as you can see from his photo, and he has a very comfortable loose relaxed walk to match. Trainer John Price really liked him at the sale and is excited at the prospect of training him. There was just one problem though-we knew that he’d be too expensive for our normally restrictive budget-so we broke the rules and went over our limit and had to pay $35,000 to buy him, which is why we’re introducing our very first ‘DOUBLE GRAND’ Syndicate!

With Double Grand, you’ll still get our great fixed fee structure at $6 a day, however instead of the shares being a ‘grand’ each, they’ll be ‘two grand’ each. It’s as simple as that. This will allow us to purchase and offer a greater range of horses to our client base, thereby giving them more opportunities to own and race a nice horse or two and get into the winners circle. As always with Grand Syndicates, you still won’t see any big mark-ups on our purchases because our first goal is to ‘lower the bar’ and make owning a nice horse affordable and fair for everyone.

We think that this colt by TOORAK TOFF is a fantastic value yearling for such a well performed first season stallion and from a dam who's already produced two smart racehorses in her short stud career. He definitely has the odds stacked in his favour, and who knows, with a bit of luck, he could bring you some of the best times of your life…
