I am keen to purchase an Oaks winner and I am on the lookout for one or two fillies a year that may have the profile to win one of these great classic races. This Pierro filly was very highly rated by Bill and James Mitchell as well as our vet Dr Tim Roberts. I also gave it a very high rating. I must say we were expecting her to sell for $150,000 to $200,000 and I was surprised when she slipped through the cracks and we got her for $100,000.


She is an outstanding type from a great female line. I’m very pleased to be able to offer her to my owners, she has a great chance of making the grade. Patrick Payne was thrilled when I purchased her. He rode the 3rd dam Sunshine Sally in the Melbourne Cup.


Sunshine Sally was raced by John Singleton who has one of the very best broodmare bands in Australia. She was an outstanding racehorse winning the Reisling Slipper Trial and then going on to run 2nd in the AJC Oaks. She always raced at the top level.


It was really as a broodmare Sunshine Sally made her mark. She was the dam of the good stayer Touch Of Sun as well as the Millie which won the AJC Gimcrack Stakes. Another of her daughters produced Courgette, the dam of Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign.


Pierro is doing a remarkable job at stud with him siring 190 individual winners with 21 of these going on to be stakes winners. Only the very best sires convert better than 10% of their winners into stakes winners.


Pierro was a very good racehorse winning the Golden Slipper amongst his 11 wins. Six of these were 2yo wins. He was an incredibly tough horse and has passed this trait onto his progeny. He has sired some outstanding horses including the ATC Derby winner Levendi as well as the Group 1 winners Pierata, Arcadia Queen, Shadow Hero, Pinot, Regal Power and Furore.


To be represented by seven Group 1 winners from 21 stakes winners is extraordinary. Six of these seven Group 1 winners are out of the daughters of the sons of Danehill. This is no fluke but shows just how good the cross works.

I’ve got to say there is a lot to like about this filly. Most importantly, she is an athlete. I have paid her up for the Inglis Series of races. Pierro has done a remarkable job and gets sprinters and stayers.
