Description:

Considered the fastest son of Super-Sire ENCOSTA de LAGO at stud, NORTHERN METEOR was the busiest First Season sire in 2009. A Group 1 winner down the Flemington straight (VRC Coolmore Stud S.[G1], 1200m.) and the track record holder at Randwick when he streeted the field in the City Tatt’s RC Brian Crowley Stakes [L] by 5L, his brief 9 start racing career was curtailed when connections elected to retire him on a high.

Saluting on 3 occasions throughout his career, NORTHERN METEOR was also placed twice. On one occasion, he was runner-up to Takeover Target in the G1 AJC TJ Smith S. where he beat Apache Cat to the line.

Well-patronised during his first season at stud, NORTHERN METEOR’s progeny have been well received in the sales ring, averaging almost $150K at this year’s Inglis Easter sale. His oldest progeny now yearling’s, his foals have been categorised as bold and classy and this colt is no exception. As a sire NORTHERN METEOR is now on the board, recording his first 2YO winner on 1st November in `Ticket to Toorak.'

BOURGOGNE (by Choisir), the dam of this colt, is beautifully bred. Trained by Pat Hyland, the mare had two wins under her belt when injury cut her racing career short. This is the second foal for BOURGOGNE. Her first foal, Queen of Eight, is by Haradasun. Also trained by Pat, he is confident in her sprinting ability, hence his decision to purchase her half brother at this year’s Easter Yearling Sale.

FIONNAY, the unraced second dam, is the producer of 6 winners from 7 to race including VRC Oaks [G1] winner BULLA BORGHESE, herself the dam of Stakes placegetters Romanus (3d. AJC Skyline S.[G3]) and Melponene. Third dam AMINOMA has an impressive – perfect – resume at stud, producing 12 winners from 12 to race including G3 SAJC Auroria S. winner, ASCONA, Singapore Gold Cup [L] winning ST GALLEN(13 wins) as well as Malaysian Stakes winner ANDERMATT (Penang Sprint Trophy [L].

“An outstanding type, good head, long rein and a good walking colt,” Pat Hyland. This colt is currently spelling, having completed an educational prep. including informal jumpouts. He is expected back in the stable in November and looks to be an eary goer.
