Description

MOZU MARCASSIN (JPN)

4yo (Northern Hemisphere 3yo) Gelding By SILBER STATE (JPN) out of LUMIERE GUERLAIN (JPN)

Promising son of the upcoming stallion Silver State, who has been extremely unlucky not to have won a race yet. MOZU MARCASSIN has run second to some very handy horses, including Wurttemberg, who went on to run third in a Group 3 the next start.

Trainer: MATT CUMANI (BALLARAT)

Important To Note:

In Japan, Maiden races are only available on the JRA programs until September of a horse's three-year-old year, which means all horses who don’t breakthrough not win by then have to go to NAR (Dirt only) even if they are turf horses.  These Maiden horses are always pushed so hard to win before the cut-off, so they don’t have a proper spell or aren’t given the appropriate time to mature, even if it’s obvious they need time to grow. JRA races are very high level, equivalent to Melbourne/Sydney metro.

Rising Sun Selections

MOZU MARCASSIN is the fourth horse we have secured from Japan, closely following PRESAGIO. The pair will arrive in Australia together. The two previous imports, MEINER LEGACY and NISHINO CRESCENT were very much in the same mould as these horses. They had shown a lot of ability and had some handy racetrack performances, however, they simply needed more time which could not be afforded to them.

Rising Sun Syndicate has a great connection to the Japanese and we always get insight from the grooms and track riders who know very well about the horses to know exactly what we are getting.

MEINER LEGACY

13 starts, no win in Japan.

Won 5 races, including Saturday metro at the Valley, earning over 200k in the first 18 months.

NISHINO CRESCENT

9 Starts, no win in Japan.

Won his maiden at $1.10 in super promising style. Definitely looks a metro contender.

Only two horses to import from Japan so far and they both are Metro grade stayers.

MOZU MARCASSIN has a terrific turn of foot. He was able to run 33.8 seconds in the last 600m of a 1800m race. As mentioned above, he ran second to a handy horse called WURTTEMBERG who went on to place at Group 3 level at his subsequent start.

He is still an immature horse and will be gelded before arriving in Australia. This will give him plenty of time to further develop and the gelding will also help him focus as a racehorse. There is so much upside to this horse. You can put a line through his three most recent runs on his form. He had worms and lost condition badly, however, the owner wanted to push on to get him that elusive maiden before the deadline.

The last run before losing condition, he ran a gallant 2nd behind promising EARTH CHRONICLE, who is a sister to champion mares CHRONO GENESIS and NORM CORE.

If you take out those ordinary runs after losing his condition, the race 1600m or shorter and a race on Dirt surface, MOZU MARCASSIN had very consistent records and has never been far off from the winners.

He will be arriving to Australia in November 2023 and we expect him to race early 2024.

SIRE: SILVER STATE is an exciting son of global sire-sensation DEEP IMPACT. He had 4 wins from 5 starts and never been seen his full potential and had to be retire from injuries.

He went to stud with service fee of $8000, He quickly showed his ability as a stallion and produced 3 stakes winners on his first-year crops with limited quality mares.

His service fee jumped right up to $63000 in no time.

SILVER STATE is half-brother to SEVILLE, 2013 Group 1 The Metropolitan winner.

DAM: LUMIERE GUERLAIN is by Rock Of Gibraltar, he is a son of Danehill. That combines the potent Danehill blood with that of Sunday Silence. This is one of the prominent crosses in the world, especially through Japan. She won 8 races during her racing career and came from the family produced HAKUSAN MOON and WARRING STATES.

JAPANESE FORM

MOZU MARCASSIN’s best from in Japan is over 1800m which will translate to a beautiful stayer in Australia once he has more time to mature.
