The 2017 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale had just one horse which we, along with trainer trainer Luke Oliver, had our sights set on more than any other. He was the colt by MASTER OF DESIGN from Great Tradition, making him a half brother to our handy racemare Khutulun.
Close followers of Grand Syndicates would be well aware that on the first ever day we went to the yearling sales to begin our journey of providing good quality, low cost yearlings, we purchased a filly from this very same sale and from the very same mare for only $16,000. She of course became KHUTULUN, a favourite warhorse at Team Grand and importantly the winner of 6 races and over $340,000 in stakes so far, including a placing in the recent Lord Stakes at Flemington. So it was a no-brainer that we would want to look closely at her latest half brother.
This colt is by the young blueblood stallion MASTER OF DESIGN, a former $2.1million yearling and an outstanding equine specimen by the Champion stallion REDOUTE’S CHOICE. On the racetrack, MASTER OF DESIGN won the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick, stamping his class as not just a colt with a pedigree, but also one talented enough to win at the elite level too. Now standing at Swettenham Stud in Victoria with his oldest progeny just 3yos, he’s already shown his ability to throw smart sprinting types with 4 stakes performers from just his first 11 winners!
Our colt’s dam Great Tradition is already a proven producer having had 3 to the races for two winners. Not only has Khutulun been pretty handy her with her 6 wins to date, but also Enshrined has won 8 races too. Great Tradition is from one of Australia’s great producing families, being from the outstanding broodmare KENSINGTON GARDENS, making her a ¾ sister to the VRC Derby winner and Champion stallion BLACKFRIARS as well as the Stakes winners LARROCHA, MANTON, WATERFORD ROAD & LION’S GATE. Not much else needs to be said about the family really. It’s a high quality page of outstanding racehorses, with most in the family capable of not just winning, but racing well at black-type level too.
To be trained at Caulfield by Khutulun’s trainer Luke Oliver, this colt has also been paid up for the lucrative Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonus schemes, which includes over $20 million dollars of extra Victorian prizemoney on offer exclusively to paid up Vic-bred horses. The opportunity is a must for Victorian bred & trained gallopers, just look at current Grand Syndicates runners, Khutulun, Gilchrist and Tykiato, who alone have won over $85,000 just in VOBIS bonus prizemoney so far!
He’s also paid up for the Inglis $5,000,000Race Series, which means he’s eligible to be compete in all Inglis races as a 2yo, 3yo and 4yo. The series is only open to those horses purchased through an Inglis sale and fully paid up, which this colt is, adding another string to his bow!
With 5% shares priced at $2,200 each which includes all costs to the end of June 2107, and with Grand Syndicates fixed fees of just $6.60 a day, this Super VOBIS colt is well worth being involved in!
