It’s no wonder that this filly’s stable name is ‘Princess’ as she hails from ‘The Royal Family’ of Western Australian thoroughbred breeding.
It’s a much sought after family that has produced Melbourne Cup winners, Railway Stakes winners, and everything in between. Horses such as ROGAN JOSH (13 wins including the Group 1 Melbourne Cup, the Group 1 Makinnon Stakes, the Bunbury and Pinjarra Cups), MACHINE GUN TOM (13 wins including the Group 1 Railway Stakes), CORPORATE JAMES (20 wins), COOL BUSINESS (13 wins), PARADISE PARK (4 wins including the Group 3 Sires Produce Stakes), the mighty MARASCO (16 wins to Group 2 level), and a couple of horses that we raced ourselves after syndicating them, HOT SHOT BROTHER (6 wins including the WFA Group 3 Scahill Stakes) and Fire From Ice (7 wins) too. It’s a family that is so well known for continuing to produce horses of the highest calibre generation after generation. The filly is out of the unraced mare Cool Deal who’s a half sister to another quality horse in SHINING KNIGHT a winner of several of Perths leading sprint races. Cool Deal has had two of her progeny to race and both have been winners.
On the stallions side, the filly is from the second crop of the World class stayer ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE who was good enough and versatile enough to win 10 races, 4 times at Group and Listed level from 1400m to 3200m. Not only did he win the Group 2 Goodwood Cup (3200m), but he is also a winner of the Group 3 Ascot Sagaro Stakes(3200m), the Group 3 Goodwood Glorious S. (2400m) and the Listed Goodwood Festival Stakes. (2000m) too. He won first up over 1777m in DUBAI, and he was also Group 2 and Group 3-placed three times. He even ran top ten in a Melbourne Cup!
At stud, he’s producing very good types-the eldest of which are now 3 year olds. ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE has the looks, pedigree and performance to breed quality milers and top-class middle distance racehorses and stayers. Whilst most of his progeny can be regarded as longer term staying types, this filly from a predominantly sprinting female family, should be up and running pretty soon.
