Archrivals Volkhere and Hi Son will resume hostilities on Saturday ahead of carnival campaigns that could again have the pair on a collision course.

The clashes between the Robert Heathcote-trained Volkhere and Tony Gollan's Hi Son were a highlight of the early-season racing in Brisbane with the pair running the quinella in five middle-distance races.

The pair resume their new campaigns in the National Construction Management Pty Ltd Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

It is likely to be the first of several meetings between Volkhere and Hi Son as both have similar long-term Brisbane winter carnival missions.

Heathcote said he was looking forward to Saturday's race although he didn't expect Volkhere to win.

"Their rivalry was great for racing and I am looking forward to it continuing," Heathcote said.

"Volkhere obviously wants further than 1400-metres but he should run a nice race.

"In the long term, we will be looking at the lesser grade black-type winter staying races for him such as the Ipswich Cup. I am sure we will strike Hi Son along the way."

While Heathcote expects Volkhere to appreciate longer distances he is hopeful he can win Saturday's open handicap with Jopa.

"He was very good when fifth in the Listed Falvelon Quality last Saturday after he came from the outside barrier," Heathcote said.

"This is a drop in class and he has been a terrific trier for us. I think the 1400-metres will suit him at this stage of his career."

He is also confident Asadauskaite can improve in the Alex Surf Club Handicap.

Asadauskaite, who was Listed placed as a three-year-old, was beaten as favourite when she resumed at the Sunshine Coast on February 18.

"She didn't handle the very heavy track at all first up. We were going to run her on Wednesday at Ipswich but they scrapped the race so she is off to the Sunshine Coast," Heathcote said.
