Four-month ban hits jockey Chris Caserta

Wednesday 23 May 2018, 4:45pm

Apprentice Chris Caserta has been suspended for four months by Racing Victoria stewards on two charges emanating from a positive test to a banned stimulant.

Caserta was on Wednesday found guilty of providing a urine sample that tested positive to a banned substance under the rules of racing and of failing to provide a sample when asked.

He was suspended for four months on each charge with the suspensions to be served concurrently.

The Caulfield-based rider was asked to provide a urine sample at Caulfield trackwork on May 7 before eventually being tested at the Cranbourne barrier trials that morning.

His suspension was backdated to commence on May 16, the day he was stood down from riding at Sandown, with a return date of September 16.

Caserta has been unable to ride or handle a horse since being stood down but stewards have ruled he can resume riding trackwork once he provides a clean sample.

Stewards also considered inaccuracies in Caserta's evidence on May 16 before electing not to take further action.
