Plucky Girl chasing stakes win at Doomben

Monday 21 May 2018, 2:31pm

Queensland's toughest mare Plucky Girl is set to step up for her first black-type assignment in the Group Three Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben.

Plucky Girl took her career statistics to eight wins, 10 minor placings and a fourth from 20 starts when she won the Tamworth Cup at her most recent start on April 29.

Stable foreman for his father trainer Toby Edmonds, Trent Edmonds, said Plucky Girl had been a marvel and it would be silly to say she was not a stakes horse.

"She just keeps taking the next step and surprising us," he said.

"She has got a prize money cheque in 19 of her 20 runs. The only time she missed was on a bog track when she was well beaten and eased out of the race.

"But she has done it all in one campaign. She has been in work since March last year. She really has been an eye opener as the owners sent her here to win a race so her breeding value would be increased."

"She has more than done that and we can't remember training a more consistent horse."

Edmonds said Plucky Girl spent most of her time on the family farm near the Gold Coast where she "pottered around" in a yard.

"She deserves her chance at something better and at this stage that will be on Saturday," Edmonds said.

Plucky Girl is one of 21 entries taken for Saturday's Group Three Glenlogan (1350m) headed by Group One-winning Chris Waller-trained stablemates Foxplay and Shillelagh.
