Top policeman gets QRIC post

Friday 27 April 2018, 2:59pm

One of Queensland's highest profile police officers, Mark Ainsworth, has been appointed the first Deputy Commissioner of the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission.

Detective Superintendent Ainsworth is currently working at the Crime and Corruption Commission but has previously been involved in some of the state's biggest criminal investigations including the murder of Alison Baden Clay in 2012.

Ainsworth led the police task force into the greyhound racing industry and has been an integrity advisor to Racing Queensland.

He received the Australian Police Medal in the 2013 Australia Day honours list, and was recognised for his achievements as a police officer including his role in assisting the Commission of Inquiry into the Queensland 2011 floods.

Commissioner Ross Barnett said Ainsworth was well credentialled to take on the important role.

"As the CCC's Director, Corruption Operations, Mr Ainsworth has been leading sensitive investigations and supporting the chairman in promoting the highest standards of integrity and ethics in the public sector," Barnett said.
