Tarzan to keep momentum going at Doomben

Friday 19 January 2018, 2:49pm

Tarzan will lead trainer Stuart Kendrick's team at Doomben with the Caloundra trainer continuing to make his mark on Queensland racing.

Last week two-year-old Fullazaboot surprised many with his second to Sunlight in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic.

While Fullazaboot has a rest, Tarzan returns to Doomben on Saturday after winning four of his past five starts.

The gelding gets his chance to win another Brisbane open company race in the Addy's Geting Hitched Handicap (1050m) .

He was a handful early in his career because of his unpredictability but has responded to Kendrick's training.

Tarzan broke the Sunshine Coast track record for 1000m and has also won Open handicaps at Doomben and the Sunshine Coast with his only recent defeat when eighth in the Listed Bribie Handicap.

Kendrick believes Tarzan has the potential to win in black-type company but needs things to go his way.

"He needs to get rolling and get near the fence and then he is very hard to run down. "He can run very smart times," Kendrick said.

"Tarzan who ran a course record 56.13 seconds for 1000 metres at Caloundra and then he ran 59.65 seconds when he won at Doomben which was just outside the course record (59.19). So it is obvious he is holding his form."

The gelding has also had a tie-back (throat) operation and foot issues during his career.

Kendrick will also run promising filly Winter Passage in the Two-Year-Old Handicap (1100m).

"I have a bit of opinion of her but like all two-year-olds they have to reproduce it on the racetrack,' Kendrick said.

The trainer also has Gypsy Miss resuming in the final race on the program..

Kendrick has won four Sunshine Coast premierships and been a regular in the Brisbane top 10 trainers but has a team which looks set to propel him even higher.

He said Fullazaboot would have a short break before being prepared for races later in the season including the Group One ATC Sires' Produce Stakes at Randwick.
