Strangles ban lifted on two stables

Tuesday 21 November 2017, 6:53am

The quarantine order on two of Victorian trainer George Osborne stables has been lifted but a third remains classified as an infected place following a strangles case.

The confirmed case was in a horse at Glenfern Park, Osborne's pre-training facility at Romsey north of Melbourne.

Osborne's two Kyneton stables, one of which he shares with two other trainers, were quarantined earlier this month as a precaution given the movement of the horses between the three properties.

Racing Victoria says the ban on horse movement between the Kyneton stables has been lifted but the section of Glenfern Park housing Osborne's horses in pre-training remains classified pending the completion of further testing.

Strangles is a contagious respiratory tract disease but is rarely fatal.
