Sedanzer defies betting drift at Rosehill

Saturday 18 November 2017, 2:15pm

Punters have wavered in their confidence about Sedanzer with the mare a dramatic shortener and equally dramatic drifter before her comeback win at Rosehill.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare was a $6.50 chance in Wednesday's first markets for the Chandon 5 (1400m) and into $.270 with the TAB by Saturday morning.

By the time the race jumped, Sedanzer was at $5.50 with Slow Burn the $3 favourite.

But under confident riding from Rachel King, Sedanzer grabbed Slow Burn on the line to win by a head.

"The pace was a bit slow for her but I know her well and she has such a good turn of foot," King said.

"I knew how well she would let down. She's pretty sharp."

Sedanzer was tried at Group One level earlier this year, running fifth in the Schweppes Oaks (2000m) in Adelaide before beating just one home in the SA Derby (2500m).

Bott said Sedanzer was unlikely to be tried over such distances again for the time being.

"We'll keep her around 1400 to 1600 metres for the moment," he said.

"Rachel rode her perfectly to conserve her energy.

"We'll take her through the mares grades. She's a Magic Millions horse so she may head there in January."
