Dream I Can has finally rewarded the faith of connections and trainer Ron Quinton by winning for the first time at his 12th start.

Quinton's relief was obvious as Dream I Can broke through at Hawkesbury on Wednesday.

Dream I Can levelled up to fellow $3.20 equal favourite Lankan Pharoah and pushed on to win the Lander Toyota Plate (1300m) by three-quarters of a length.

"I don't know if that'll give him confidence, but it might give us a little bit more," Quinton said.

Quinton, a part owner in the $110,000 purchase, always thought Dream I Can was capable after his third on debut at Canterbury in June last year.

"Russian Revolution won and he was about four lengths behind it," he said.

"It was a terrific debut run. We thought 'we've got something here'."

However, Dream I Can then displayed a lack of killer instinct as he racked up five minor placings.

Quinton initially feared the worst when Dream I Can caught Lankan Pharoah.

"When he got alongside he was half thinking about it. When he got passed it, then he went away," Quinton said.

"You've just got to hope he grows and gets a bit better and works out it's not too bad a game."

Former Australian Jockey Club board member Peter Falk was the only owner other than Quinton to witness the win.

"We never lost faith because he's had so many seconds.There was always a hope he'd pick up the right race," Falk said.
