Sydney trip on agenda for Poste Restante

Interstate plans are firmly on the agenda for Poste Restante if she performs up to the expectations of trainer Desleigh Forster at Doomben on Saturday.

Poste Restante has her first start for Forster after she campaigned during the winter carnival when prepared by New Zealand trainer Howie Mathews.

"I've had her since she came back into work after her winter spell and, although I'm still learning about her, she's a lovely-natured mare and I'm very happy with the way she's going," Forster said.

Poste Restante will resume in a race for mares where she will be ridden by Ric McMahon from the outside alley.

Although the 1200m trip is short of Poste Restante's preferred distance range, Forster expects the mare to perform well first-up.

"I've kept her on the fresh side and these good stayers usually race well first-up so I wouldn't be surprised if she ran a forward race," she said.

"Her fresh record is good and I'll be more than happy if she's running on strongly at the finish."

The Summer Cup (2400m) at Rosehill in December is a race Forster will consider for Poste Restante if she joins high-profile stablemate Adebisi in a Sydney campaign later this year.

"The carnival in Melbourne will be over by the time this mare is up and going but there should be some suitable races for her in Sydney later in the year," she said.

Poste Restante began her winter campaign on a promising note when she finished a creditable third to subsequent Queensland Derby winner Brambles in the Group Three Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at Doomben on May 12.

In the Queensland Oaks, three weeks later, she took up the unfamiliar role of pacemaker before weakening to finish eighth to Quintessential on a heavy track.

Poste Restante was spelled after she finished 12th in the Derby when she failed to back-up a week after her gruelling run in the Oaks.

Forster has enjoyed a stellar start to the racing season.

She has achieved six winners from her past seven starters including Dream'n'ignite, a dominant four-length winner at Doomben on Wednesday.
