Most Important trial for sprinter

Sunday 12 November 2017, 4:11pm

Most Important could be given a barrier trial a few days before making his return to Brisbane racing at Doomben.

Trainer Tony Gollan is confident Most Important can bounce back from a poor Melbourne campaign in Saturday's Listed Keith Noud Quality (1200m) at Doomben.

Most Important picked up a $500,000 bonus when he won the three sprint legs of the Brisbane Summer Crown last year - the Group Three George Moore Stakes, Listed Lough Neagh Stakes and the Buffering Quality.

Gollan elected to miss the Brisbane winter with Most Important with Melbourne's spring carnival in mind.

But Most Important failed to fire and finished last in both his starts at Caulfield last month.

Gollan has put Most Important's efforts down to him simply not handling the Melbourne way of going.

"Both times he travelled well on the back section of the track at Caulfield but once they got to the bends he just couldn't go at all," Gollan said.

"He is a lot better than those runs. I brought him home and gave him a week in the paddock and then trialled him last week when he was a good second."

"Most Important is a horse that needs a bit of work so I might trial him again before Saturday on Tuesday."

Gollan said Most Important would follow a similar path to last year through the summer triple crown and the Magic Millions Cup on January 13.
