First season sires made a big impact as predicted at the Magic Millions Weanling Sale during the first session at the Gold Coast on Thursday with Newgate Farm's Australian Horse of the Year Dissident posting the single best result.

Best result for a first season sire was achieved by Dissident

Top seller for Dissident was a colt from Fastnet Rock mare Celtic Sea that fetched $300,000 for Newgate Farm when snapped up by David Lucas on behalf of Dubai based Phoenix Investments.

Darley's Brazen Beau was not far behind siring a colt from Calvados to make $270,000. Consigned by Sledmere Stud, the colt was bought by Hilldene / Peter Ford Thoroughbreds.

Another of the Newgate sires, Deep Field, showed his hand with a colt from Caesour's Promise that made $240,000 for Attunga Stud when bought by Musk Creek Farm.

Swettenham Stud's Toronado (IRE) made his mark with a colt from Fastnet Rock mare Demasheen that made $140,000 for Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm when bough by renowned judge James Bester. 

Top seller for Darley's Shooting to Win was a filly from Sotella that made $130,000 for Kitchwin Hills when secured by Hilldene/ Peter Ford Thoroughbreds.

The best result for Coolmore's Rubick was a filly from Chase the Dame that made $130,000 for Holbrook Thoroughbreds when bought by UK based Redwall Bloodstock.

Newgate's third sire Wandjina got his best result with a filyl from Bright Heart that made $90,000 for Newgate when bought by Fernrigg Farm.

Arrowfield's Olympic Glory (IRE) did best with a colt from Steps to the Beat that made $70,000 for Kitchwin Hills when bought by Meredith Park.

Cornerstone Stud's Zebedee (GB) had a colt from Chinese Whispers that made $60,000 for Rothwell Park when bought by Eclipse Bloodstock.

Lyndhurst Stud's bargain priced Better Than Ready posted his best result with a colt from Von Krum making $48,000 for Yarramalaong Park when secured by Melbourne Bloodstock.
