Queries over Eagle Farm surface

Tuesday 25 April 2017, 12:45pm

The Brisbane race meeting at Eagle Farm featuring the Group Two Victory Stakes is expected to go ahead despite criticism of the surface after track gallops.

Eagle Farm is set to host its first meeting in a month after being given a rest following criticism of the state of the track.

The meetings set down for Eagle Farm were transferred to Doomben and some provincial tracks.

The Brisbane Race Club allowed 16 horses to work on the course proper on Tuesday morning and reports were horses were getting out wide and there was considerable kickback despite the fact there had been little rain.

BRC chairman Neville Bell said he was not at the work session but had also been told the track was playing like it was heavy.

"I will get a full report in the morning and asses what is further needed to be done," Bell said.

"At this stage the meeting will be at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

"We want to do the right thing by the punting and race-going public but we also have to consider looking after the track."
