Big plans for Sold For Song

Sold For Song's strong finish in the recent Coolmore Classic has encouraged her trainer Kevin Kemp to map out a three-state campaign for the mare.

Sold For Song ran well without placing in a short Sydney excursion finishing fifth in the Group Two Millie Fox Stakes and then midfield in the Group One Coolmore Classic at Rosehill on March 11.

Kemp considered keeping her in Sydney but brought her home to Toowoomba last week.

"Her runs in Sydney were good because both times she drew badly and had to be pulled back to last. It meant she was giving away huge starts," Kemp said.

"Her sectional for the final 400 metres in the Coolmore was the second best in the race but when you are coming from last in a Group One race it is a big ask.

"She was beaten about four lengths and had she been able to settle closer she could have finished in the money."

Kemp has turned Sold For Song out for a short freshen-up and she will resume for the winter carnival in early May.

"We will run her in the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast on May 8 and then in either the Doomben 10,000 or Glenlogan Park Stakes (May 15)," Kemp said.

"Depending on her form she will then go into the (Group One) Stradbroke and Tatt's Tiara and or the Dane Ripper Stakes on Stradbroke day and the Tiara."

Kemp then plans to take Sold For Song to Melbourne for the fillies and mares stakes races in the spring.

"And then hopefully it is off to Perth in the summer," he said.

"I know there are some ambitious ideas there but you only get a top horse every now and then and you have got to have a plan."
