Five finalists for Colin Alderson Award

Tuesday 23 August 2016, 6:38am

Five up-and-coming trainers have been announced as the finalists for the inaugural Colin Alderson Rising Star Award.

The winner will be named at the Scobie Breasley Medal night on Thursday in Melbourne.

The finalists are Archie Alexander, Daniel Bowman, Mitchell Freedman, Wez Hunter and Sam Pritchard-Gordon.

The Colin Alderson Rising Star Award, named in honour of the recently retired multiple Group One winning trainer, was introduced this year as a joint initiative of Racing Victoria and the Australian Trainers' Association.

It recognises the achievements during the season of a Victorian trainer under 40 who has held a trainers' licence for less than seven seasons.
