Cushion Pink an exception to E Farm rule

Saturday 20 August 2016, 12:43pm

Trainer Robbie Heathcote hasn't changed his opinion of the new Eagle Farm racing surface despite the impressive win of his filly Cushion Pink.

Heathcote has been one of several trainers to be outspoken critics of the new racing surface which has taken time to settle.

"It will be a good racing surface eventually but at the moment some horses just don't handle it," Heathcote said.

"The new Eagle Farm is certainly a horses for courses proposition at the moment."

"Many of mine don't handle it but Cushion Pink did last week and that's why I backed her up this week."

Cushion Pink ($3.40) lived up to Heathcote's confidence when she scored by a short head to Social Vampire on Saturday.

Heathcote said Cushion Pink would now be sent for a spell and brought back for races next year.

"She has done a good job going from 1200 metres last week to winning at 1600 metres this week. She will come back a stronger filly,' he said.

Cushion Pink is yet another horse by sire Mossman to win for Heathcote who has won about 50 races with offspring of the stallion.

"I picked her up for $25,000 at the Magic Millions. I love these cheap Mossman buys," Heathcote said.

His star sprinter Buffering, who is Mossman, is long odds on to win the Queensland Horse of the Year Award.
