Sylvester seeks another Highway win

Friday 19 August 2016, 2:30pm

King of the Highway Jeremy Sylvester is looking to chalk up a second Sydney win this season.

The Cessnock trainer is bringing High Tec to town for another shot at a Class Three Highway Plate race after the six-year-old finished sixth at Randwick earlier this month.

Stablemate Snappy One won the race under apprentice Deanne Panya who is set to ride High Tec on Saturday with a 3kg claim.

Late last season, Sylvester had wins with Lasszou and Three Sheets in Highway races which are restricted to country-trained horses.

"I've won three now so all the other owners with other horses are asking, `When are we going down?'" Sylvester said.

"If it weren't for the Highway Handicaps they'd probably never get a chance to have a runner in Sydney."

"The country people love it. It's a great event and a great day out for them."

Formerly trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, High Tec had a stint with Darren Weir in Victoria before being bought by Sylvester, his wife and a couple of friends earlier this year.

He has failed to run a place in his five starts following a four month spell but his trainer is hoping the prospect of a firmer track will help him get back to form.

"He's progressed well," Sylvester said.

"Let's hope this beautiful weather keeps up and the track keeps getting upgraded because the better the track, the better it will suit him."
