J'Star aiming for hat-trick on city debut

Thursday 16 June 2016, 1:03pm

In form J'Star will try to extend her winning sequence when she makes her city debut at Moonee Valley.

The Leon and Troy Corstens-trained three-year-old contests the Oneview Healthcare Handicap on Saturday after victories at Bairnsdale and Geelong.

J'Star is facing a class rise and is one of the outsiders at $31 for the 1000m dash, but Troy Corstens said the filly is deserving of her chance on Saturday.

"It's a big step up in class from her run on the synthetic at Geelong to a Saturday city meeting at Moonee Valley," Corstens said.

"But she's a three-year-old and at this time of year there's always the chance to see where they are at.

"She'll take her spot and we'll see if we can get a nice city race next to her name."

Daniel Moor, who has ridden the filly to victory at her past two outings again takes the ride on Saturday.

J'Star sat off the speed when successful over Saturday's journey at Bairnsdale before outspeeding her rivals leading throughout over 1100m at Geelong.

Corstens said J'Star had taken improvement from both those outings adding a city win was now important for her future.

"It's amazing how much a city win can add to their value when you go to sell them as broodmare," he said.

The Corstens team has scratched Doom 'N' Boom from the Pantry Packer Handicap.

Doom 'N' Boom, a winner at his last three starts over 1900m on the synthetic surface at Geelong, will again run on that surface on Friday over 2200m.
