Further showers for day two of Ascot

Wednesday 15 June 2016, 9:34am

The prospect of further showers looms over the second day of the Royal Ascot meeting.

The opening afternoon was run on ground officially described as soft with the course hit by nearly 12 millimetres of rain on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST).

A forecast of between four and five millimetres is on the radar for day two.

"In the last 24 hours, we have had nearly 12 millimetres of rain (four millimetres overnight and the rest today) and I am very pleased with how the track has taken it," clerk of the course Chris Stickels said.

"The forecast remains showery and there are heavy showers out there, moving across from the south-west. We might have four or five millimetres tomorrow and then a similar amount on Thursday."
