Flemington track rating to suit Jimando

Wednesday 18 May 2016, 5:27pm

A drop in grade and a return to a firm track may be the recipe for Jimando regaining winning form.

The Tony McEvoy-trained galloper has been winless for 14 months and lines up in the Better Loosen Up Handicap (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.

McEvoy said Jimando had been racing well before his last-start seventh in the Wangoom Handicap when a heavy track had conspired against the horse.

"It was the first time on a heavy in his career and he travelled beautifully but (jockey) Daniel Moor said his wheels started spinning as soon as he let his head go," McEvoy said.

"We'll forgive him for that as he was running well before that but he still needs to come up a notch."

McEvoy said the six-year-old had worked well since Warrnambool and was in perfect shape for Saturday.

Stablemate Mr Backchat won't line up against Jimando after drawing barrier 18.

Jimando is a $10 chance in an open betting race that is headed by Sistine Demon at $6.

McEvoy will be in Adelaide on Saturday to see the return of Alpine Eagle in the Robert A Lee Stakes at Morphettville.

Alpine Eagle came up with barrier two in the field of 12 that also sees the return of Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance and his stablemate Tall Ship.

"He drew nicely in barrier two and that means he can have a nice restful run," McEvoy said.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him back."
