Liberation can defy BTC Cup odds: Lockwood

Friday 13 May 2016, 1:58pm

Trainer Barry Lockwood has backed his faith in wild child Liberation by sending him into the Group One BTC Cup at Doomben.

Liberation, who is still eligible for restricted class, will be among the outsiders for the Cup but Lockwood does not think he will be out of place.

"He is very well at the moment and I thought why not have a go. He has earned his way this campaign and deserves a chance," Lockwood said.

"Put it this way, he won't be running last. There are a stack of other races around for him so if he fails there is nothing lost. But I have always had an opinion of him it is just a matter of getting him to run up to that form."

Liberation was originally trained in Sydney by Gai Waterhouse where he developed his bad-boy image.

His most infamous display was in the 2014 Up And Coming Stakes when his waywardness caused major interference.
