Gr 1 Doncaster Mile: what the jockeys said

JOCKEYS' COMMENTS ON THE GROUP ONE DONCASTER MILE

HUGH BOWMAN - Winx (1st): "It was the first time in any time I have ridden her that half way through the race I was concerned because of the worn track. She wasn't overly comfortable in it so the fact that she wasn't comfortable and still produced that finish is something of only a horse of champion qualities can do."

BRENTON AVDULLA - Happy Clapper (2nd): "I don't know whether to cry or be happy. I said a month ago he'd win the Donnie and I was heart-broken when Chris (Waller) said he was going to accept with (Winx) but look he's a star in the making."

GLEN BOSS - Azkadellia (3rd): "She ran terrific. I ducked back to the inside because my mare doesn't mind soft, but that other mare (Winx) can just sustain that top speed for so much longer than most."

KATHY O'HARA - Vergara (4th): "Terrific run from her, probably a career best."

JAMES McDONALD - Bow Creek (5th): "I thought he went great, just the track was a big problem for him."

MARK ZAHRA - Stratum Star (6th): "He had every chance, just a bit too good for him."

CRAIG NEWITT - Good Project (7th): "He had a good run in the race. He was just a little outclassed when the cream came to the top."

PATRICK MOLONEY - He Or She (8th): "Just struggled through that sticky patch when Winx and Happy Clapper were able to travel through and expose him."

TEGAN HARRISON - Rudy (9th): "I just think he's looking for further now. Initially I thought maybe the back-up but a few jockeys have said the same thing, he wants 2000 metres plus.

COREY BROWN - Volkstok'n'barell (10th): "Looked a little disappointing on face value but he really didn't handle the going at all, dipped and dived the whole way."

TIM CLARK - Ecuador (11th): "He travelled well, but he's just not finishing his races off."

TOMMY BERRY - First Seal (12th): "From the half mile she really struggled in the conditions, more the shiftiness of the track now it's a bit chewed up."

WINONA COSTIN - Aomen (13th): "He tried hard. He didn't have the best of runs, he got buffeted a bit coming into the straight."

OPIE BOSSON - Turn Me Loose (14th): "Had his chance. He was a bit disappointing."

ZAC PURTON - Kermadec (15th): "Very disappointing. I had a lovely run in the race."
