Tempt Me Not wins Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes

Saturday 2 April 2016, 3:27pm

Tempt Me Not has given the extended Cummings family a Group Three win on a big day at Randwick in the PJ Bell Stakes.

Trained by James Cummings for Goree, the operation managed by his wife Monica for her grandfather Eduardo Cojuangco, Tempt Me Not was ridden by Glyn Schofield to a half-length win over Pearls.

Tempt Me Not ($16) shared the lead for most of the race, holding off Pearls ($18) with second favourite Egyptian Symbol ($5) another two lengths third.

"This is the big stage and we're thrilled as a stable to get here on the big days and deliver," Cummings said.

"Our gut feeling has always been that 1100 or 1200 metres just about sees her out, so we will look at options here and at Scone for her."

It was a welcome return to the limelight for Schofield who was recently in the headlines for a different reason with fines totalling $70,000 for acting as an agent in the sale of two horses to Hong Kong.

"It's nice to win a race on a big day," Schofield said.

"She ran second to Secret Agenda at Flemington on a wet track and she beat that horse by a long way today.

"James is a young trainer who places his horses well and this filly has plenty of upside and paddock value now."

The Mick Price-trained Secret Agenda was a $7 chance but could only managed 10th, six lengths from the winner.

The favourite Super Cash made some ground late for fifth.
