Gough on weather watch with Right Or Wrong

Thursday 4 February 2016, 12:05pm

Trainer Lindsay Gough is keeping a close watch on Brisbane's heatwave with Right Or Wrong set to back-up within a week.

Right Or Wrong won at Doomben last week and is scheduled to run in Saturday's Mount Franklin Handicap at the same track.

Brisbane has had stifling weather and Gough will not risk his rising star if temperatures get too high.

The trainer is confident Right Or Wrong is up to stakes class and believes it could be in the Brisbane winter.

Right Or Wrong made it four wins from 12 starts when he was one of the few runners to come from back in the field to win last Saturday.

The problem facing Gough is getting Right Or Wrong's rating up to allow him to run in the winter Group races.

"A win should boost his rating and it is easier to win it now rather than against the better horses in the winter," Gough said.

"I am happy with him but the heat is always in the back of your mind especially when they are backing up in a week."

Gough believes Right Or Wrong's best distance will be 1800m to 2000m.

"Eventually a race like the Doomben Cup would suit him, whether this year or next. At this stage he wouldn't make the field," he said.

"There are some stakes races over 1600 metres during the carnival and they might be his races. But that is in the future."

Right Or Wrong was second in the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes last year and was taken to Darwin where he ran sixth in the Guineas and second in the Derby.
