Supido impresses Williams at Flemington

Saturday 30 January 2016, 1:19pm

Craig Williams is adamant Supido is going to figure against better horses than the ones the lightly raced sprinter beat at Flemington.

The Mick Kent-trained Supido has been restricted to only five starts but landed his third victory in Saturday's Michael Stewart Plate (1000m).

Supido was sent out the $1.60 favourite and proved a class above his rivals as he sprinted to a 1-1/2 length win in his first start since winning at the same track in July.

"He's a very exciting horse," Williams said.

The jockey said Supido had matured since he rode him to victory.

"I believe they're taking a step-by-step approach with him in regards to his grade, and there's no doubt he'll be winning a good race," Williams said.

"He's a Group sprinter."

Kent said Supido had had a lot of problems, including a bad foot abscess.

"He's over all that now. He seems to have come back and hasn't got any of those issues," Kent said.

"He's grown up and it's onward and upward."

Another restricted race in three weeks has been pinpointed as Supido's next target, with Kent saying the entire needs racing.

After being back in behind runners early, Williams improved along the inside and was in a position to strike a long way from the finish.

Supido defeated Good Offa ($61) with another three-quarters of a length to Chiavari in third place.
