Risque wins NZ Thousand Guineas

Sunday 15 November 2015, 9:08am

New Zealand training partners Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards have claimed a memorable Group One Guineas double with Risque.

The filly's Thousand Guineas win at Riccarton on Saturday came a week after Xtravagant's domination of the Two Thousand Guineas.

Risque is raced by Dick Karreman whose racing manager Rick Williams sent the filly to the Te Akau Racing stable.

"When we got her Rick said `this is the horse' and we were fortunate he gave her to us," Autridge told NZ Racing Desk.

"After a while we knew in the back of our minds that she would be special and she's proved it. It's been an unbelievable seven days."

Risque is by Darci Brahma who stands at Karreman's Oaks Stud.

Karreman also raced multiple Group One winner Seachange, winner of the 2005 NZ Thousand Guineas.

"We won this race 10 years ago with Seachange and we've had a few placings since so it's terrific, a big thrill for Dick and Darci Brahma," Williams said.

Stable rider Matt Cameron, who also rode Xtravagant, chose Risque over stablemate Special Memories and brought the filly with a powerful finishing run from back in the field to down Strada Cavallo.

Dezzies Dream was third and Special Memories fourth.

"I can't believe it. I made the right choice, Cameron said.

"I had to come a bit wide and once I went for her and gave her a couple behind the saddle she really lengthened out and she was too good for them. What a week it's been."
