More country Cups in mind for Digitalism

Digitalism is likely to continue a country Cups campaign after contesting the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.

The first of those may be as early as Saturday week with trainer John Sadler hinting the gelding may back up in the Ballarat Cup.

Digitalism will be chasing a third straight win when he lines up in Saturday's Group Three Eclipse (1800m) after victories at Moonee Valley and the Cranbourne Cup.

Sadler said he had bypassed the Flemington carnival with a view to the back-end of the spring.

Although Digitalism won on a good track at Cranbourne, Sadler would prefer some give in the ground at Sandown.

"He's better with a bit of cut in the ground," Sadler said.

"Cranbourne was nice, but it was run to suit and I didn't get too carried away with that win."

Sadler said he did not think there would be any problems backing Digitalism up at Ballarat a week after the Eclipse but stablemate Charmed Harmony would head for a spell after he contests the Sandown Stakes.

Charmed Harmony began his campaign in February and has been a model of consistency apart from two runs earlier in the preparation.

Sadler said his past two runs, including a fifth in Group One company, had been excellent performances.

"It's probably a bit much to ask him to keep going and have him right up there near his best in every run," Sadler said.

"He hasn't shown me that he's gone off, but I suppose he's got to be coming to the end of it anyway."

Japhils will represent the stable in the Summoned Stakes with Sadler concerned about the rise in distance from 1100m to 1500m.

"She'll probably lead them for quite some time but the last little bit will be the worry," he said.
