Trainer Tony Gollan has mixed feelings about wide barriers draws for two of his runners at Doomben on Saturday.
Last-start winner Didntcostalot will tackle Saturday's PFD Foods Open Handicap (1200m) while Secret Saga takes on the Kangaroo Bus Lines Handicap (1050m), both from awkward alleys.
Didntcostalot has drawn barrier eight in a field of 10 but Gollan doesn't see it as a disadvantage.
"I would be surprised if he didn't lead this field on his ear," Gollan said.
"Didntcostalot had a bit of a wrap on him in Sydney and both his runs up here have been very good."
Didntcostalot was trained by Marc Conners in Sydney and was best known as a short-course sprinter.
The gelding has had five starts over Saturday's 1200m trip, his only win coming in a restricted race at Gosford.
However, his two runs for Gollan have given the trainer reason to believe Didntcostalot can perform at the distance on Saturday.
"The way he has been racing gives me confidence at the 1200 metres," Gollan said.
"I can't see many of these wanting to go with him and despite going up in the weights he looks suited."
Gollan is more concerned about the barrier draw for Secret Saga who has gate nine in a field of 12 with most of the speed runners to her outside.
"Blue Desert Moon has barrier 11 and Big Tree barrier 12 so it will be interesting to see how the race pans out," he said.
Secret Saga caught the eye of track watchers at the jump-outs two weeks ago when she finished second to Group One sprinter Buffering.
The pair went stride-for-stride before Buffering pulled away narrowly at the finish.
"She is going well but the barrier will be the telling point," Gollan said.
