First city win for trainer Tara Cochrane

Wednesday 15 July 2015, 5:48pm

A midweek meeting at Moonee Valley in the middle of winter has been the scene of a satisfying victory for trainer Tara Cochrane with Jersey Whistler.

Five-year-old gelding Jersey Whistler provided Cochrane with her first city win in Wednesday's Telstra Business Centre Richmond Handicap (1000m).

"It's fantastic, my first metro win," Cochrane said.

"I love this horse. I put a lot of hard work into him, he's very hard to get to the races and stay sound but he just tries his heart out for me. It's great."

Cochrane, 30, has been training for five years and has 10 horses in work at Pakenham.

Jersey Whistler ($15) was worse than midfield before working around the field to be in striking distance when the field straightened.

He arrived in the final strides to grab Emerenta and win by a half neck with It's A Shame Billy another neck away third.

Cochrane said Jersey Whistler wasn't the easiest horse to train but said the gelding gives his all on the racetrack.

"It's easier to get up in the morning when there's a nice fast horse there that tries like he does," Cochrane said.
