Qld cobalt tests results expected soon

Monday 13 July 2015, 4:54pm

Queensland stewards expect to receive the results of the second set of tests on two thoroughbred cobalt irregularities this week.

The irregularities were found after tests at the Racing Queensland scientific centre and the B samples sent to Sydney for confirmation tests.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said he hoped those results would be available as early as Tuesday.

"As per our policy we will not release any further details until those test results come back," Reardon said.

"But I can again say the irregularities were not from winter feature race winners."

Stewards do not have a date for any further hearing in the case of Sydney mare Diademe who was a scratching from the Tatt's Tiara on June 20.

Reardon said he understood liquid found in bottles labelled Kentucky Green near Diademe's stall had been sent for further testing.

North Queensland trainer Glen Baker was recently disqualified for two years for a high cobalt level found in January's Doomben winner French Lesson.

His appeal is set down for July 17.

An inquiry into elevated levels in last year's Rockhampton Cup winner, the Jamie McConachy-trained Vandalised, has been adjourned for stewards to consider evidence from pharmacologist Dr Robert Kinobe.

He has told the inquiry cobalt could be accumulated if administered intravenously over a period of 33 days and says there needs to be more research on the subject.
